As Asian is right on Australia’s door step, I’ve had so many friends and family take short trips to Thailand, Bali and other south east Asian places. I have seen endless photos of people riding elephants thinking that it’s the natural fun way to enjoy the scenery.
I never want to be a naïve tourist, and neither should you. Educate yourself about the places you are going, and as many of the south East Asian countries are developing countries, understand that many of their laws, especially towards animals are still extremely inhumane and barbaric.
Have a read of this article and see how you feel about riding elephants afterwards.
This is the amount of time before I finish my degree. Holy mother of god, I never thought this day would come.
But it’s not the end. I’ll be back next year doing my honours project in pig welfare. Yay!!
Really cannot stand animal rights people at the moment. One farmer is bad and they make it out that they all are?
Most cases that they present as “evidence” are rare cases that just happen to be found.
Maybe try filming the farmers that are good to their animals and encourage meat eaters to buy from those producers?
They make me out to be the badie as well because I am an animal welfare advocat and not animal rights. Because I really want bad shit to happen to animals? What are they doing about it other than posting of facebook? I haven’t studied for three years to be talked down to by people that dont know shit about what really goes on…
